World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.It is held on December 1st each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.

The red ribbon is used globally by charities as a symbol to demonstrate our support for individuals affected by HIV and to generate awareness about the reality of living with HIV. It was conceived in 1991 so 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of this global symbol of unity and awareness.
