Environment Code
This Environment Code is designed to support the Equality Policy and to help ensure Positive Action is a welcoming place for everyone. It applies to everyone who uses, visits or works at Positive Action.
Positive Action is used by a variety of people who differ in age, gender, ethnic origin, sexuality, physical or mental ability or are members of particular communities. These differences deserve our respect and acknowledgement.
Positive Action requires that you help our work by following this code. Refusal to do so, or breach of this code, may result in disciplinary action or your exclusion from the organisation.
- No one should experience physical, verbal, racial or sexual abuse.
- Physical expressions of support (touching, hugging etc) are not always appropriate or welcome; people differ in what they consider to be their space.
- Language can both offend and exclude people either through its content or the way it is used. Always consider other individuals present.
- Other peoples' personal information may not be disclosed without their consent; knowledge of someone's HIV/AIDS status, or other health matter, is strictly confidential and may only be shared with the persons permission at Positive Action and never outside of the organisation.
- Asking to borrow e.g. money or cigarettes can make people feel uncomfortable; please do not do it.
- Dealing or sharing prescribed or non-prescribed drugs is not permitted at Positive Action.
- Taking intoxicating substances or being present at Positive Action under the influence of intoxicating substances is not permitted.
- Consuming alcohol or being present at Positive Action under the influence of alcohol is not permitted. In special circumstances, the Chair or Chief Executive may give permission for the consumption of alcohol.
- Wilful damage to, or theft of, Positive Action's or personal property will result in appropriate disciplinary/legal action.
- Positive Action operates within public legislation, therefore smoking is prohibited. Anyone who wishes to smoke outside must dispose of cigarette butts in a suitable waste bin.
- No animals may be brought into Positive Action except those used to assist someone with a specific need.
